How to work for long hours ? Here I will tell you what changes you need to make in your lifestyle, mindset, thought process to be able to work long hours a day.
How to Work For long Hours? Develop these Qualities
- Patience: Obviously you need to be patient and not panic when you are running a marathon.
- Perseverance: Develop a never give up attitude. At certain stages of your work you will mess up, but don’t let that discourage to leave the work. Gather your focus and try again with your full potential.
- Practice: Practice makes a man perfect. You must have heard that. Its true. Whether it is some part of your work ( like remembering things, solving problems, presentation etc. ) or your work as a whole, it is practice that will make you efficient and effective.
Get The Basics Right
- Sleep: Get good sleep i.e. 6 hours or more. It is important to make you productive and engaged for the entire day.
- Exercise: Do workout or yoga or both daily. Your body directly affects your mind. If your body is lethargic then it would induce lethargy in your mind as well, thus reducing your productivity. Daily exercise makes your body feel lighter and fresher and similar effects are passed onto your mind.
- Water: It is important for your digestive system, muscle building and smooth functioning of your brain. Try to drink around 10 glasses of water every day.
- Over Eating: Eat as much as your stomach wants and not as much your tongue, especially when there is a long working day ahead.
- Screen Time & Distractions: Schedule a specific time slot for checking your phone and check it only in that slot. Keep a track of your screen time. You can use apps like ‘Stay Free’.
- Meditation and Energy Optimization: Meditation helps you be aware of your emotions and impulses. And by being aware of them you can prevent yourself from being carried away by them, and thus reduce overthinking or unnecessary content consumption which can significantly drain your energy.
Know The WHY
- Before asking How to work for long hours? ask yourself Why do you want to work for long hours? Why the work is so important that you need to work on it for long hours? Why are you even doing this work at first place?
- Understand the context whether not doing it is in your hands or not. If not why worry. For example: if you are doing a job that you don’t like but you have no other option but to do it either because of financial reasons or something else, then why worry because you are already doing what is in your hands.
- Once You figure out answers to these basic questions then you can make them the fuel for your determination. They form a strong base for your strong will.
Change Your Perspective
- Be satisfied and happy with what you are doing. Don’t consider your work as burden on yourself.
- Don’t let your mind wander. Remember your WHY and keep bringing it back and get along with your work. It is important for your mental health to get along with your work. Don’t let your mental health deteriorate just because you don’t like to work. Make it your friend
- Consider it as important for your self improvement as it induces discipline, increases self control, and enhances your productivity and mental and physical stamina.
- The pain working brings is good for your self improvement. So Endure it. As that pain is removing impurities from you and bringing pure gold out of you.
Productivity or Psychological Hacks
- Make a Schedule or To – Do list: Divide your long work into small parts and allot feasible time slots to complete those parts. Also include small breaks after completion of each time slot.
- Focus more on Efforts and not Results: Initially you might not be able to complete your tasks in allotted time, that’s fine, try to give your best and keep doing it day after day. Gradually you will start achieving your goals even before time.
- One Thing At a Time: While working break your task into even smaller parts and focus on one part at a time. For Example: While reading break your content into small paragraphs or even few lines, and complete it one by one.
